True Colors

This dragonfly has rainbow colored wings. It flies over a large orange flower symbolizing openness and radiance. The dragonfly is a symbol of transformation and the crescent moon is my symbol for happiness (as it looks like a smile in the sky).
The title 'True Colors' came from an art project I did with two young girls. They were my neighbors and I would teach them art after school. One day, we worked on a painting of a giant dragonfly. It was made out of puffy paint and painted purple and green. We wanted to make it brighter and more brilliant, so we painted over it in white gesso and gave it more brilliance. While we painted we sang the song, 'True Colors'.
To me, that was about showing your light, and not being afraid to show who you truly are.
